London, UK –29th June 2016 – With just under a month to go until the release of Steven Spielberg’s big screen adaption of The BFG, Entertainment One (eOne) today outlines plans for the European licensing programme which is poised to launch at retail from July ahead of the theatrical release on 22nd July 2016.
eOne has pan-European licensing rights to The BFG movie and has assembled a robust line-up of UK and European licensees across apparel, toys and games, stationery, home and giftwares, and FMCG. Products inspired by the film will be heading to a whole host of high street and online retailers including Amazon, Debenhams, Foyles bookshop, Hamleys, Harrods, John Lewis, Smyths and Toymaster. eOne is also working closely with its Spanish licensing agent Planeta Junior and  DRi Licensing, the UK licensing agent for Quentin Blake’s illustrations of The BFG, to maximize retail presence in-store and secure cross category FSDU displays.
The BFG movie licensing programme targets boys and girls aged 5-12 years with a secondary audience of nostalgic adult fans and gift givers. Product development has been inspired by the movie’s stunning style guide, which offers licensees a range of themes such as gruesome giants for the boys and dreams and friendship for girls.  
eOne is distributing the movie theatrically in the UK and has forged a number of high profile promotional partnerships to drive awareness around this tentpole movie event. Its impressive roster of brand partnerships include Bensons for Beds, which is supporting with TV advertising and holiday promotions, Pizza Hut Restaurants is creating The BFG themed kids menus, 8 page, activity booklets in over 272 restaurants nationwide, Parcelforce Worldwide is wrapping a fleet of lorries in The BFG branding with additional exposure online and in its depots, gourmet popcorn company Joe and Seph’s is cooking up a new Frobscottle popcorn recipe in honour of the movie release and branding will also span Chiltern Railways and Irish energy firm SSE Airtricity.

A partnership between eOne, Save the Children, and The Roald Dahl Literary Estate will see a new public art trail celebrate the release of The BFG across the streets of London and key locations around the UK between 9 July and 31 August. ‘The BFG Dream Jar Trail’ is a unique art installation that will showcase the childhood dreams and aspirations of well-known personalities including Steven Spielberg, Mark Rylance, Niall Horan, Zoella, Maisie Williams and Quentin Blake, in giant sized six foot jars that will be auctioned after the trail closes. Three of the jars will be placed in Harrods with a window display featuring consumer products.
Two of the world’s greatest storytellers – Roald Dahl and Steven Spielberg – unite to bring Dahl’s beloved classic The BFG to life. Directed by Spielberg, “The BFG” tells the imaginative story of a young girl and the Giant who introduces her to the wonders and perils of Giant Country. The film adaptation is based on a script by the late Melissa Mathison, who last teamed with Spielberg on “E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial.”  Spielberg, Frank Marshall and Sam Mercer will produce while Kathleen Kennedy, John Madden, Michael Siegel and Kristie Macosko Krieger are on board as executive producers.  Adam Somner is a co-producer. 
The Disney/Amblin/Reliance production in association with Walden Media will open on 22nd July during Roald Dahl 100, the centenary year of the celebrated author’s birth. The stellar cast includes 2016 Oscar winner Mark Rylance as The BFG, British newcomer Ruby Barnhill as Sophie, Rebecca Hall as the Queen’s maid and Penelope Wilton as The Queen.
